Hello! Welcome to Simple Life... Redefined, the place where my family's journey to a more natural lifestyle will be recorded. I love Jesus first and foremost, and it is because of Him that I live and breathe. I am a self-employed wife and mom of two beautiful kids and I am about as far from perfect as I could possibly be, so at the very least, this should be entertaining, should you choose to tag along.
I wish I could say that I have always known that the best way to live was as naturally as possible. Unfortunately, I have lived the majority of my life as many others do, resorting to traditional medicine and convenience based products and food, intentionally choosing not to read labels, etc because what we don’t know can’t hurt us, right? My son was born with allergies to pretty much everything outside, asthma and a super sensitive stomach. And yet again, for much of his life, I let doctors prescribe cocktails of drugs to pour into him every day in hopes that something would work and something would make him better. I noticed right away that he did better with all natural foods that lacked all of the artificial sweeteners and preservatives so I really started paying attention to what I allowed him to eat. I also began to study the dangers related to some of the things we put in and on our bodies, and I made some pretty shocking discoveries. Even with all of this, however, I had only taken baby steps toward a natural lifestyle. I tried to cut the things I considered to be most unhealthy and I continued using the lesser evils, pretending not to know that dangers of everything else, relying on the age old wisdom of “I've eaten/used this all my life and I’m still alive.” Alive? Yes. Healthy? Not so much. My “jolt,” if you will, came in the form of my sweet daddy. I watched him fight a horrific battle that he would ultimately lose with Rheumatoid Arthritis and every complication of the disease that you could possible imagine. I watched him pour medicines that were meant to cure him into his body and I watched as they slowly destroyed him. Steroids meant to prolong a good quality of life stripped him of his immune system and proper function of his vital organs. Pain medicines left him with addiction/withdrawal nightmares and paralyzed his stomach. In the end, the very things meant to save him left him defenseless and incapable of fighting. All of the what-ifs in the world won’t bring him back, but just wondering about them has made me take a hard look at how I take care of myself and of my body and it has made me want to try to secure a better prognosis for my future and the future of my kids and my family. I started tip-toeing around in Essential Oil use a few years back when a dear friend of mine introduced them to me. It has been a slow process and has taken a lot of re-training for my mind…many times I wouldn't even remember that I had the oils until I had tried other conventional medicine methods and they didn't work, or I was in a position where I could not go to a doctor when I needed to go and suddenly I remembered…”Wonder if my oils would help that??” And time after time, they did! I tried peppermint oil for upset stomach and fever, thieves for mouth sores, infection and abscessed teeth, and slowly but surely, my brain started to think in a new pattern. Now, at the first symptom of sickness or pain, I go straight for my oils and see what I have that might help. Recently, I used my oils with my son who had severe strep throat symptoms and without a doctor visit was able to get him back to normal in less than 2 days, as well as prevent anyone else in the house from getting sick. I do not ever recommend anything to anyone unless I have tried and proven it myself, and I can honestly tell you that these oils work. Even my family, who may or may not have accused me of using “snake oil” in the past, has learned to come and ask me, “hey, do we have an oil that will help this?” :)
I have not “arrived” at healthy living. I am still on a daily journey, slowly trying to replace harmful chemicals with natural ingredients, slowly learning new methods to care for my family when they are sick or in pain without resorting to doctor visits and medicine, slowly learning that the best and safest place to live is as close to nature as we can possibly get. I hope that you will join me on this journey and learn with me. I will share my knowledge with you in any way that I can. Let’s rediscover the simple life together, and learn how to live simply in a practical way that fits into the modern times we live in.
