Maybe you're just getting started on your journey to a more natural life (not unlike me.) Maybe you just read approximately 576 articles online and you are currently hyperventilating and trying to decide which one of your unhealthy habits will kill your family first. (Hey, some people *cough* me *cough* may do that, just throwing that out there.) Maybe you just bought an economy size box of lawn and leaf style trash bags and you are going from room to room frantically dumping all the toxins you can find. Sigh.... STOP. Right now. Calm down. Take a deep breath. Repeat after me... BABY STEPS...
Just as Rome wasn't built in a day, neither did your lifestyle become as healthy or unhealthy, or as natural or artificial as it is in a day. It has taken weeks, months, even years for you get to the point where you are at. It's going to take more than a day to get it to a different point. And that's ok. You have done the very best thing you could ever possibly do for your family, simply by taking that first step and saying, "Hmmm...wonder if we could improve our quality of life if we make a few changes?" Seriously. You're going to be ok. The only person who ever failed was the one who stopped trying.
Just take one day at a time, one habit at a time, one food at a time, one room at a time....whatever you need to do, just give yourself a break and do it slowly. Don't throw out every single cleaning product that you have that may not be the safest unless you can feasibly replace them all that day. (Trust me, this will not end well...you will end up having to clean your entire house with vinegar, and while it may work just fine, you are not actually going to want to live in said house until the smell fades.) Just make gradual changes: as one product runs out, replace it with a safer, more natural alternative. I can also assure you that trying to turn your kitchen into an organic haven in one day will make you lose your mind and will also empty out your bank account. Slow down, Sally. Choose a couple of ingredients that you would really like to get rid of and start there. Buy foods that do not contain those ingredients. As you run out of certain foods, replace them with the most healthy and natural alternative that you can afford. Can't afford all organic? Welcome to the club. You're in good company, I happen to know. Just do a little here and there as you can. I promise you that I will be here with you every step of the way, sharing information and articles that I think you will find helpful and not overwhelming. We will get there one day, and we will know that we made each step with the proper amount of consideration and education that we needed. You know what they say about Band Wagon Jumpers... (they fall off) ...if that's not what they say about them, then it should be. Baby steps are the ticket, slow and steady wins the race. Stick with me, I'll show you how:)
